Advice for both amateur and professional poker players by Bret Dawson.
You start the same as always. First, you select a person to be the dealer. Usually, you do this by rolling a die; the one with the highest score is the dealer.
If there's a tie, all the people who rolled the same number must roll again. As before, the person with the highest score is the dealer.
Of course, if there's a tie, but it's not for the highest score, then you don't need a tie-breaker. Just select the one person with the highest score to be the dealer. Once that's all settled, you can really get down to the nitty-gritty.
Go to the cupboard and select a deck of cards. You will probably have a couple of decks in cardboard boxes, plus a few smaller decks, packaged in pairs in rigid plastic boxes. Do not use these small cards, as they are for bridge only.
That's it! Good luck, and have fun!
