Before the stupidity resumes

Because there already is a Christie Blatchford, we will keep this short.

In just a moment we will return to our regularly scheduled tomfoolery, which will make you glad. Before we do that, we will not try to make sense of the disastrous events of Sept. 11. Neither will we offer pained introspection nor smug platitudes about the violence within us all. Rather, we will make just one request:

When anger sticks in your throat and the lust for vengeance rises in your chest, take a deep breath and love your neighbour instead.

Take that to mean whatever you want, but note that chattering enthusiastically about airstrikes and staring coldly at women wearing hijab are both out.

Just love your neighbour.

That is all.

Breathe deeply.
